Soul Aligned Business: 3 Tips for Creating One

If Covid has taught us one thing, it’s that we don’t have to subscribe to the 9-5 corporate hustle culture anymore. And the mass exodus from the grind is a huge indication that people are beginning to turn inward. To ask themselves what they want out of their careers…and their lives.

Walking away from a corporate job comes with a lot of questions of “what the heck is next?” And I’ve seen lots of people turning to their inner wisdom to help them answer that question.

We’re waking up as a society to our own natural gifts and unique talents…and we’re starting soul-aligned businesses out of them.

In this week’s YouTube video, I take a deep dive into what a soul-aligned business actually is and 3 things to keep in mind when you are ready to begin yours.

What is a soul-aligned business?

Soul-aligned businesses have 3 essentials to them:

  1. Your business is created and run…YOUR way.
  2. You are trusting your own intuition on what you need to get your business started.
  3. You are willing to work through the uncomfortable emotions that come up on your entrepreneurial adventure.

Business run your way

A soul-aligned business is a business that has to get out of you. It’s a product or service that brings you so much joy in creating you have no choice but to share it with others. It is such a strong desire that you feel you have no choice but to start it.

Trust your intuition

There are thousands (probably millions) of articles and coaches out there who are going to tell you how to start your business. They might say you need to figure out your niche or that you have to make sure your ego is healed before you start. You need an email list or an opt-in, even a website before you can really start to make offers and get clients.

In a soul-aligned business, you are running things your way. You are letting your intuition and your firm belief in yourself and your business lead the way. Yes, you may have found mentors or coaches that are inspiring but you are checking in with yourself before diving head-first into the advice they are giving.

You work through the uncomfortable

Entrepreneurship is the fastest way to becoming the most spiritual version of yourself because it brings up A LOT of uncomfortable things. From the fear of being seen to the fear of failure to receiving and all of your money issues.

Soul-aligned business owners are willing and able to work through these uncomfortable feelings and emotions. You have a way of regulating your nervous system and expanding its capacity so that you can be the best version of yourself for your business.

Once you’ve decided that becoming a soulful entrepreneur is the right next step for you, feel free to follow these 3 tips.

Keep it simple

Do you already have an idea for a business? Maybe you want to fill a gap where you felt you could have been better served in an industry. If you have an idea for a business, GO FOR IT. When this idea is consistently tapping you on the shoulder, it’s a really good indication that your soul is calling you to start this thing.

If you don’t already have an idea, no pressure. Begin thinking about what you love to do. There is a business in there, I promise. Maybe you love making stickers or creating new tea flavors. Maybe journaling is your idea of a good time. There are tons of ways people make money and you most definitely get to be one of them.

The point here is you don’t have to reinvent yourself time and again to begin a business. Simplicity rules! And let’s face it, easy is a good indication that it’s a soul-aligned business in the works.

Gain inspiration from what’s been done

Look around at what your favorite people are doing. What kinds of people are you following on socials? What type of work really lights you up and makes you feel happy? Who makes you think “I want to be her when I grow up?”

These little moments of “she is so awesome” or “how does she do that?” are your inner joy coming to the surface. They are giving you hints at what your life could be like. So soak in those moments and check in with yourself.

What are those people doing that makes you love them? How are they interacting with their audience? If you were in their position, what would you do differently? Similarly?

And then take some time to think about what makes you totally unique from them. How do you stand out in a crowd? What is a really cool spin you could put on something you love?

To give you an example, there are TONS of website developers out there. What I do differently is bring spirituality into the technical side of a business.

Please know that looking into other people’s businesses can bring up a lot of “compare and despair.” Where you begin to think that you could never put together something like they have. You’ll never get to where they are. This is normal!

Work through those emotions by journaling or physically moving (hello dance party!).

Check-in with yourself

As I said earlier, owning a soul-aligned business can be tough stuff so my final tip is to keep in constant communication with yourself. There will 100% be thoughts like “heck no, I can’t do this” or “who do I think I am?” Having those thoughts doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you or that you shouldn’t be in business for yourself.

All you need to do is come up with a way that works for you to diffuse this energy. I’m an avid journaler and a dance-it-out type of person. Maybe you like to run or hit the gym or swing. Whatever helps you to get that energy outside of yourself is perfect.

No matter where you are on your soul-aligned business adventure, keep at it. There are days when it feels hard, messy, scary and that’s okay. Just take those days with the good ones where you feel on point, aligned, and abundant. You’re in the perfect place for you.
